Nowadays, Santiago has a public transport system called Transantiago, the metro and buses work together with this system, and the mothod of payment is the Bip! Card.
The Bip! card can be purchased at authorized centers and subway stations, it costs $ 1,250, the minimum refill is $800 CLP and maximum is $ 25,500 CLP. Therefore, when buying a card for the first time you should cancel the card cost plus the value you need to charge.
When you make the first payment with the card, you can travel for 2 hours (120 minutes) since the start of the first trip or "first beep" (in the same direction), for $ 400 CLP, with a maximum of 3 combinations, only one combination can be at the Metro.
In each of the transport services, you must do the "beep!" to get the benefit of an integrated fare.
If your trip starts on the metro, between 6:00 and 6:29am, or between 20:45 and 23:00 pm (low fare at the metro) it will cost $380 CLP. If later, in the same time, you combine with buses, will complete the $ 400 CLP fee of the whole system.
At peak times, from 7.00 to 8:59 am and from 18.00 till 19.59 pm., passing your card through any validator at the metro, you will pay $ 460 CLP.

Refill rates:
- Minimum refill: $800 CLP
- Student minimum refills: $300 CLP
- Maximum refill: $25.500 CLP
If the amount to pay is less than $800 CLP, go to the Bip! Centers and find a cash desk that is not subject to the minimum charge.
In case of having problems with the functioning of your Bip! card, You can go to one of the specialized attention centers, (CAE in spanish), especially allocated to answer and resolve all doubts about the Bip! card.
